Task Description
1. Part 1. Requirements Elicitation: 10 marks
Part 1 Objective
Develop a sound approach to gather stakeholders’ requirements for the following case study.
Background – Case Study
On the advice of Brendan Murphy, the newly appointed Director of Digital Infrastructure,
Cuida Care is planning to develop a mobile phone application, ‘CuidaConnectsUs’, which is to
be distributed via its intranet and app platform. Cuida care is a residential aged care service
agency based in Melbourne Western suburbs, caring for 500+ residents. Cuida Care employees
provide a range of support services to meet the residents’ individual 24-hour care needs. Key
services include daily activities (e.g. meals, cooking, cleaning, laundry), personal care (e.g.
bathing, dressing, going to the toilet), health care and access to healthcare services
(medications and basic clinical care), social and lifestyle activities (e.g. social and emotional
support, walking, entertainment), and palliative (end-of-life) care. Several years ago, Cuida Care
implemented an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to conduct, document and manage the
assessment, care planning and delivery processes.
The CuidaConnectsUs app will run on their intranet Cuida Care platform, smartphones and
tablets and integrate with their EHR. Via a simple interface, the app will allow the residents and
their families to stay up to date with the care schedule and various updates through real-time
dashboards and stay connected through the social content for individuals or groups, send
messages, photos, videos, live video chats. The residents and their families welcome
CuidaConnectsUs, as this app allows them to stay connected, get updates and know more
about their loving parents, grandparents. In addition, the administrative staff members can
send messages, notices, newsletters to their care clients.
Brendan Murphy is also keen on integrating the platform with third-party service
providers such as meals on wheels, get meals or groceries delivered and get support from
caring volunteers who are volunteering to ensure the well-being and safety of the senior adults.
Privacy considerations and patient safety are among top priority issues.
Part 1 Tasks
Dr. Brendan Murphy and his team contacted you to develop requirements for the
CuidaConnectsUs app. Your task is to develop a requirements elicitation plan.
To undertake this task, you should use information provided in the above case study
description, undertake background research into the domain and similar organisations, and
make assumptions if you need additional details. Document your assumptions and
information sources. Based on your independent research and readings, examine the
Client’s situation, identify their stakeholders and end users, and develop a plan to elicit their
requirements for the proposed system.
Submit a brief requirements elicitation plan within two (2) A4 pages including the following:
1. Summarise the project purpose and scope in terms of the client’s needs, solution, value,
stakeholders, context and changes
2. Identify the stakeholders and highlight the end users of the new system, describe their roles
and characteristics
3. Suggest the potentially key information to elicit, and identify sources of information
4. Select and describe a plan applying either two or three (2-3) requirements elicitation
techniques potentially useful to collect stakeholders/users’ requirements for the new system,
how to apply these techniques and why
5. Discuss and evaluate potential benefits as well as issues you may face as a business
analyst when applying each of these techniques and how to overcome them
6. State a clear and specific plan to collect and elicit stakeholders’ requirements, as well as the
client’s commitments to ensure successful requirement elicitation

Part 2. Professional Capability Gap Analysis: 10 marks
Part 2 Objective
Evaluate your current IS professional and personal capabilities, compare these
capabilities to your target post-graduation IS job requirements, then 1) propose how
capability gaps will be resolved during your course, and 2) present your professional CV
to best present yourself.
All information technology related professional bodies (e.g. Australian Computer
Society) require that their members complete ongoing professional development, which
corresponds to Deakin’s Self-management GLO. A key aspect of self-management is the
ability to identify and address one’s weaknesses. Deakin and professional bodies (which
accredit courses) thus emphasise the need for all students to complete a Professional
Capability Gap Analysis during their course. You will produce a report and a professional
resume on the results of your analysis.
Part 2 Tasks
You are required to undertake background research to do a Professional Capability
Gap Analysis.
First, decide on the specific job title/position to use for your analysis. Students who are
already employed and are not planning to change their job after graduation can use
their existing job title and state a professional development goal. Students planning to
apply for a new job after graduation should identify one (1) job title (e.g. Business
Analyst or Data Analyst or another job title). If you have not yet decided, pick one that is
the most interest to you at the moment.
Please note:
• The job/position must be achievable given your industry experience and
qualifications. For example, students with 6-12 months of industry experience
cannot be managers.
• Australian employers of international graduates expect applicants to have Australian
work experience relevant to the job/position. If you don’t, then a more realistic goal is
apply for junior / entry-level positions initially.
Second, find a minimum of 20 high quality, credible research sources, specific to the job
title/ professional development goal and relate to the Information Systems /
Information Technology sector or relevant to your discipline or choice of career. Each
source should state multiple capabilities needed for the professional development area:
• A minimum of 5
oadvertisements for the job title (for those applying for a new job after graduation)
course syllabuses (for those focusing on professional development, not a new
job) which include capabilities relating specifically to the professional development
area above and to the job title / IS/IT sector.
• A minimum of 5 academic research sources (i.e. peer-reviewed journal articles
and conference papers) which report on capabilities relating specifically to the
professional development area above and to the job title / IS/IT sector.
• A minimum of 5 industry sources (e.g. documents, reports or articles) written by a
professional body (e.g. Australian Computer Society, Forrester Research, Gartner
Group, Ernst and Young, PWC) about the capabilities relating specifically to the
professional development area above and to the job title.
You are required to submit a list of references to the research sources with your final
report for marking. Make sure you store all these sources for checking if needed.
Third, identify the various specific capabilities that are needed for the job title /
professional development goal. You must submit the list with your final report.
Fourth, reflect on your own experience and current capabilities, identify 2-3 weaknesses
with respect to the specific capabilities which emerge from the research synthesis.
Fifth, identify highly specific strategies that you will use to address the
weaknesses. For example:
• Not just ‘certifications’, but which specific certifications, what do they cover, andhow
and why will they address one or more of your weaknesses?
• Not just ‘internship’, but what specific internship tasks, and how and why will these
tasks address one or more of your weaknesses?
You must submit your synthesis matrix (i.e. a table) with your final report. Each column
should be a capability required for the job title / professional development goal. First
row lists descriptions of the capabilities. Second row should be your own reflections,
highlighting weaknesses. Third row lists strategies to address the weaknesses.
Sixth, develop a professional resume to a (hypothetical) employer (e.g. for a
job/position description) why you are the best candidate for the job in 2 pages
maximum. If you are not looking for a new job after graduation, then you may update
your professional resume.
The professional resume and Professional Capability Gap Analysis report are quite
different, because the resume will focus on your strengths, while the report covers
your weaknesses and development strategies.
• Students planning to apply for a new job after graduation will produce a 2-
page Professional Resume on why they should be the successful
• Students in full-time employment will produce a 2-page Professional Resume
justifying why/how they have met ACS (or similar) professional development
Write an individual report as follows (after background work):
1. Professional Capability Gap Analysis (with a maximum of 1000 words) which
maps the capabilities synthesised from your research for the specified job title /
professional development goal against:
o The capabilities you need to improve (e.g. highlight those where you
have weaknesses)
o Strategies you will use to achieve improve those capabilities with weaknesses.
o Do not include an introduction or conclusion
2. A short professional resume (2 pages, not included in the 1000 word count)
3. A reference list of the research sources used (not included in the word count).
Learning Outcomes
This task allows you to demonstrate achievement towards the unit learning outcomes. The ULOs are
aligned with specific graduate learning outcomes – that is, the skills and knowledge graduates are
expected to have upon completion of their studies – and this assessment task is an important tool in
determining achievement of those outcomes.
If you do not demonstrate achievement of the unit learning outcomes, you will not be successful in
this unit.
It is good practice to familiarise yourself with the ULOs and GLOs as they provide guidance on the
knowledge, understanding and skills you are expected to demonstrate upon completion of the unit.
In this way they can be used to guide your study.

You must keep a backup copy of every assignment you submit, until the marked assignment has been
returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your assignments is misplaced, you will need to

Building evidence of your experiences, skills and knowledge (Portfolio) – Building a portfolio that
evidences your skills, knowledge and experience will provide you with a valuable tool to help you
prepare for interviews and to showcase to potential employers. There are a number of tools that you
can use to build a portfolio. You are provided with cloud space through OneDrive, or through the
Portfolio tool in the Cloud Unit Site, but you can use any storage repository system that you like.
Remember that a Portfolio is YOUR tool. You should be able to store your assessment work, reflections,
achievements and artefacts in YOUR Portfolio. Once you have completed this assessment piece, add it
to your personal Portfolio to use and showcase your learning later, when applying for jobs, or further
studies. Curate your work by adding meaningful tags to your artefacts that describe what the artefact
Marking and feedback
The marking rubric for this task is available in the MIS701 CloudDeakin unit site – in the
Assessment folder (under Assessment Resources).
It is always a useful exercise to familiarise yourself with the criteria before completing any
assessment task. Criteria act as a boundary around the task and help identify what assessorsare
looking for specifically in your submission. The criteria are drawn from the unit’s learning
outcomes ensuring they align with appropriate graduate attribute/s.
Identifying the standard you aim to achieve is also a useful strategy for success and to that end,
familiarising yourself with the descriptor for that standard is highly recommended.
Students who submit their work by the due date will receive their marks and feedback on
CloudDeakin 15 working days after the submission date.
Extensions will only be granted for exceptional and/or unavoidable circumstances outside the
student’s control.
Students seeking an extension for an assignment prior to the due date should apply directly to the
Unit Chair by completing the Assignment and Online Test Extension Application Form. Requests for
extensions will not be considered after 12 noon, 11 December 2020. Applications for special
consideration after the due date must be submitted via StudentConnect.
Late submission
The following marking penalties will apply if you submit an assessment task after the due date
without an approved extension: 5% will be deducted from available marks for each day up to five
days, and work that is submitted more than five days after the due date will not be marked and will
receive 0% for the task.
‘Day’ means working day for paper submissions and calendar day for electronic submissions. The
Unit Chair may refuse to accept a late submission where it is unreasonable or impracticable to assess
the task after the due date.
Calculation of the late penalty is as follows: this is based on the assignment being due on a Friday at
• 1 day late: submitted after Friday 11:59pm and before Saturday 11:59pm– 5% penalty.
• 2 days late: submitted after Saturday 11:59pm and before Sunday 11:59pm – 10% penalty.
• 3 days late: submitted after Sunday 11:59pm and before Monday 11:59pm – 15% penalty.
• 4 days late: submitted after Monday 11:59pm and before Tuesday 11:59pm – 20% penalty.
• 5 days late: submitted after Tuesday 11:59pm and before Wednesday 11:59pm – 25%penalty.
